Today, after Five Generations and the Reigns of Six Monarchs, the 16th Century Bakehouse still stands at the heart of Haughley on the Village Green producing daily a variety of its Fresh Bread and Confectionery.
Our Bakers rise from their beds early in the morning to bake ‘your daily bread’ using traditional methods and recipes handed down by the family and fellow ‘Master Bakers’ as they have always done loyally serving generations of Suffolk families.
In an era of massed produced products Palmers prides itself, as the Oldest Family Bakers in Suffolk, on being able to provide personal service, traditional values and care to its customers and as such we use ‘proper’ ingredients in our products such as Butter, Flour, Sugar, Eggs and Yeast as well as other locally produced ingredients.
The Bread is baked daily in our Ancient Brick Ovens and ‘drawn’ from within by a ‘peel’. They are ‘fired’ to the correct temperature by flame to produce the perfect crust.
The vaulted Brick Ovens retain their distinct flavour unmatched by commercial supermarkets and the Ovens never cool or they will crumble and collapse.
Early in the morning as people wake, the mouth watering sweet smell of our unique freshly baked bread, rolls and other cakes is a familiar scent in the air and attracts ducks from the village castle moat to our door as well as generations of customers from miles around.
We produce a wide range of Breads from White, Granary, Multi Grain & Wholemeal to Artisan Breads such as Tomato, Rye, Pumpkin and Olive as well as an extensive range of Sausage Rolls, Savoury’s, Freshly Prepared Filled Rolls, Takeaway, Sandwiches & Buffets, Patisserie and Bespoke Wedding,

Paddy & Scott’s, Free Range Eggs & Local Honey to Meats from Rolfe’s the Butchers of Walsham and Flours from W H Marriages of Chelmsford and Pakenham Water Mill
